The science of ABA

The science behind ABA is that all behaviour is learned and everything we do is behaviour. In order to change a behaviour, we need to analyse why that behaviour was learned, in other words, what is its function. When we know the function of the behaviour we can manipulate the situations that preempt it and the consequences that follow it in order to increase or decrease the behaviour or to shape it into a different form.

Throughout this process we continue to measure and analyse the behaviour to ensure that our intervention is effective, and make changes to the intervention based on these measurements. All of the decisions made in all aspects of the children’s programmes are data-driven in this way.
